Karl Bartos zal de geschiedenisboeken ingaan als lid van Kraftwerk, de baanbrekende Duitse groep waar hij van 1975 tot
1991 onderdeel van was. Dat wil niet zeggen dat hij daarna geen fraaie muziek meer maakte. Dat deed hij wel degelijk,
maar nooit was het resultaat zo subliem als nu op The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari. De titel is de naam van de klassieke film
uit 1920, een psychologische thriller van Robert Wiene die gerestaureerd is en waarvoor Bartos een soundtrack maakte. En
die is werkelijk fenomenaal, een intrigerende mix van Bach, Kurt Weill, Steve Reich, Kraftwerk, progrock, romantiek en
circusmuziek. 37 instrumentale nummers op een CD die boeien van de eerste tot de laatste seconde en die iedere muzikale
grens overschrijden.
