Eigenlijk was LVL UP (Sub Pop) zijn belangrijkste band, maar toen die er de brui aan gaf begon multi-instrumentalist en illustrator Nick Corbo aan Spirit Was. Zijn debuut is spookachtig en representeert een soort schoonheid van de natuurlijke wereld zoals de klassieke country rock dat ook heeft… dark, droning, shadows of doom and black metal. Spirit Was mengt technische met melodieuze songwriting à la Harry Nilsson. Als het stoffig en psychedelisch wordt, dan komen Earth en Wolves In The Throne Room in beeld.
