In 1982 maakte Pere Ubu ‘Songs Of The Bailing Man’ om daarna een pauze te nemen voor o.a. een soloalbum van frontman David Thomas. Toen Ubu de boel weer oppakte, hadden ze voor drie albums getekend bij een major en kregen we het antwoord op wat popmuziek nou precies is. Zevende album ‘Cloudland’ uit 1989 kreeg veel MTV exposure en is het enige Pere Ubu album dat in de Billboard charts terecht kwam. Geproduceerd door Stephen Hague (OMD, Pet Shop Boys, New Order).
